View Full Version : May 27th Event

From Boardpimp's post:
We need to get an event planned for this month and at least one in every month of this summer, fall and winter!
An idea of an event to be held May the 27th, the Sunday before Memorial day, with food and a biggest air or best trick competition with prize $$$$.
We gotta make this club thing work, anybody got any ideas? throw them out its everbodys club.
Anybody interested in hosting this possible event....Bill / Scott????
I'm all for something like this... in fact I was about to bring it up for discussion. I see a few hurdles that we would have to address:
All of these assume that it's an event that we try to publicize - to promote the club, the lake, the people, and just have a good time. If not and it's for "club members" only then only 1 and 2 really apply
1) It's tough to have a competition of any sort (big air, coolest trick, best wipeout, etc) on a lake where ballast is illegal. I guess we could load the boat with 12 of the heaviest people we could find...?
2) It will be diffificult on the weekend to find an area such that A) isn't swamped with other boats making it impossible to ride and B) where people could watch from a shoreline
3) Even though most of us know each other I'm sure we would get a few who would want to compete / join in. The issue of liability needs to be addressed. Maybe a simple waiver that people sign that says "I waive my right to sue the boat driver, the boat owner, the city, the lake association, and whoever else someone could possibly find a way to sue if they got hurt.
These 3 come to my mind.. I'm sure there are others... but it should allow the discussion to start..
Other than that I'm all for it... Let me know how I can help..

Wankmaster,
I thought i sent this reply last night but i dont see it? guess it got shot to another wankers site??
Anyway, i was thinking of have the competition around maybe 10:00am before the water gets messed up, usally this time of the year theres not many people that get out that early.
We could do it anywhere else if somebody has a better idea, but i was thinking about starting back in our cove, and the trick could go down somewhere in front of our property. This should give the rider and driver enough time to get it together. We have 250' of shoreline and i'm sure my neighbors wouldn't mine the company.
As far as liabiltiy, everbody would need to bring their on boat and driver.
We could do lunch afterwards and then let the refreshments flow.
Whatcha think?

I'ld say you'ld have to start it at 8 or 9 to have descent water anymore.
But if we just need a starting ground for riders, my old man said we could use our dock to find the Wankster of Williamstown.
from across the lake from the Gunthers, we would have a large dock to see from, start from and judges can sit in the boat, on the dock, or where ever.
We can set bouyes in the water for starting points and have a four trick run.
Or we can...
what ever you guys think. I may be too late already.

Kingwanster,
Sounds like a plan to me. So far we have about 7 people that are "in" but probably only one who will compete.
Some other members want to help, can you take over or set up the compitition portion. I'll take care of snacks or food.
Extreme Wake Sports said they would bring a boat if we gather enough people. Central Ky Inboards will also have one down.
We need to decided if this is definately going down, so we can start getting the word out, or not.
The club has very limited funds, what are you thinking on prize$$$$?

Joe is on the road but I talked to him and here is what we propose:
Have the event Sunday morning on the stretch down by Dave and Pam's house (Joe's). People are welcome to use the Haines' dock to hang out on. We'll start the riders from there, go up to the open area, turn around, and take you down toward Tom's dock (the last possible turnaround), bring you back, and give a double up in the open area.
There is a decent stretch here where people can watch from the sides and docks. Plus it's at one end of the lake so the traffic will be minimal.
Since this is pretty much thrown together I'd say we could try and do 2 divisions if we have enough riders to fill each division. Maybe a beg/int division where you are allowed 1 invert/spin or less and advanced that is 2 or more. Spins (full 360) count as inverts.
I'm sure there are other docks people can hang out and watch from but that is up to those people. Or as long as you're not in the drive path you could hang out on a pontoon or boat if you like. -Just watch the rollers :)
Here are a few key items that I think we need to make a decision on:
1) If there is no boat sponsor I'd be more than happy to use mine (2006 X-Star). The only thing is I would want every rider to sign a waiver saying they won't sue me. No offense but to anyone but I'd rather be safe than sorry... In addition I'd want to collect some gas money from each rider (small entry fee? $5/10 to go to this and maybe a small prize?) since it's already at $3.50 as of tonight (Tuesday). If Extreme or Central Ky want to pony up the boat and gas... that works for me.
2) We almost need to get a solid count of those who plan to ride so we can setup the divisions. If we have a bunch of riders then we may need to start earlier so the riders can have decent water before all the yahoo's get up and start buzzing the lake.
3) I say we do normal judging for beg/int - everyone rides 1x, no double up, you get scored, pick a winner.
For advanced I say we do a head-to-head format if we have a small number or riders and enough time before the lake gets busy. This is a format the Pro Tour uses such that riders are paired up and compete only against their paired rider. Winner advances to final round and they ride again. This would probably only be doable if we had 4 or 6 adv. riders. If we had 8 it would just take too long (in my opinion). Advanced would get a double up.
4) We'll need someone who knows some sort of CPR on site (just in case) - Jimmy???
5) We'll need at least one PWC to pick up fallen riders - we want the boat to go to the dock and get the next rider.
6) We need judges for both divs (if we end up having 2). I can help judge beg/int. but we'll need at least 2 more. We'll need 3 judges for adv. They will have to be people who know the tricks, no the difficulty of each trick, and can rank accordingly.
7) I'm pretty sure everyone down at that end of the lake is going to love us for having this event there are 8/9 am. Do we need to worry about damage control?
You can put me and Joe down for Adv. Who else is wanting to ride and in what div..?

Maybe worst case scenario - if we can't pull it together by this weekend for whatever reason maybe we can just do a demo. Have some people do some runs down that stretch and go big.

Jason,
Sounds good, howabout meeting at the Haines at 8am and starting competion at 8:30 or 9am. I am not claiming to be a trick expert but i would judge if we are in need of. I'm pretty sure that Extreme would bring up a boat, i just talked to those guys on saturday, they said they would bring a boat if we gather a large enough crowd. Also, although the Sports Club has offered to pay for their gas in the past but they have refused to except any money.
Camron said to count him in for the advance division. Not sure what Josh meant in his reply (if he's competing or just showing up) so atleast there's four.
The club can spring for some coffee and donuts.

Are we meeting at the Haines??
Alteczen
05-24-2007, 02:14 PM
So I guess we'll give this thing a go...
Here is the info:
When
Check in 8:00AM on Haines' dock. Bring your entry fee ($20) and sign your waiver. Beg/Int will start at 8:30. Adv will follow immediately after. I'm not a morning person either but if we want decent water that's the price we will have pay.
Divisions
We'll have 2 divisions: Beginner/Intermediate and Advanced. Beginner/Intermediate is allowed 1 invert or spin (360). Advanced is open - bring whatever you can throw. There must be a minimum of 4 riders in that division to do the tourney. Due to time constraints a maximum of 8 riders will be allowed for each division. It will be first come, first serve. Thus get to the dock and get your name on the list.
You have to be present to sign in. I will not hold spots for anyone since this thing is early and I'm not going to take the risk of telling someone "sorry - the division is full" and then not have a spot that was held not show.
Judging
We'll have 3 judges for each division. As of right now I don't know who those judges will be. We'll decide Sunday morning based on who's at the dock.
Format
Beg/Int riders will all ride once. Riders will be scored and a winner determined.
Advanced will use the head-to-head format. The 6 names will get thrown into a hat and drawn at random. Rider 1 will face rider 2, 3 vs. 4, 5 vs. 6 - similar to a tournament bracket. Whichever rider wins will advance. Since after round 1 there will be 3 riders left the judges can determine who gets the bye into the finals based on the best of those 3.
Rider will be pulled off of Haines' dock, taken out to open area toward Williamstown Marina and taken down towards Tom's dock. Boat will turn around and come back to open area. We'll identify markers that morning. Advanced will get a double up at end of pass in open area. We can go over this in the morning.
We'll tell the riders the markers for beginning and ending their run that morning.
If a boat comes buzzing down through the course and interferes with the riders pass they may end up getting to do their pass over. The judges will decide this. If it happens at the very end then you might be fine. If it happens right off the dock then we might start you over. No promises but we'll try to be as fair as possible.
The boat will pick you up after the first fall as long as they have enough time to get to plane by the end of the course. After your second fall your run is over.
Scoring
A riders run will be scored on 3 things: 1) difficulty of trick, 2) intensity of trick, 3) style. Overall the rider will be scored on the variety of trick thrown as well. Doing the same trick over and over is allowed....but you may not necessarily win throwing 8 tantrums. That's up to the judges to determine.
In addition to 1st and 2nd place, both divisions will have 2 other potential awards/prizes. They are "Best Fashion Air" (see here (http://willytownwanksters.com/wankboard/showthread.php?t=52) for example) and "Best Crash". We will give prizes to the recipients of these awards as well. However keep in mind that if you want to be eligable for these awards you must 1) throw a fashion air somewhere in your routine, and 2) at some point wipeout. If you don't do either that's your choice but we can't judge you on something you don't do. Adding these 2 awards makes it a little less "I have to get first" directed.
Entry Fee
There will be a $20 entry fee. 100% of this will go to the prizes - see below.
Boat
We will use a new 22' Centurion Avalanche courtesy of Plapps. It will be “properly” weighted for each division by utilizing people weight (wink wink). We are not allowed to use a bladder boat on the lake and we will abide by those rules. Beg/Int will have slightly less than the Advanced. Regardless… rest assured it will be setup to the best of my ability.
Waiver
We'll have everyone sign a waiver. It will pretty straight forward and will basically say that you will not hold anyone liable for any injury that you incur. Not the city, not the lake, not me, not the water sport club, not Hankins :P, ... Your own insurance will have to cover you and if you don't have any...you probably shouldn't be wakeboarding. I'm sure you get the point.
Prizes (if there are 6 riders in each division, more riders = more prize money)
Beg/Int:
1st Place - $40 minimum
2nd Place- $20 minimum
Best Fashion Air - $10 + tshirt
Best Crash - $10 + tshirt
Adv:
1st - $90 minimum
2nd - $50 minimum
Best Fashion Air - $10 + tshirt
Best Crash - $10 + tshirt
Give aways:
Random trivia might be announced to the crowd to win shirts as well if I can get enough shirts. These are open to anyone (riders and spectators). This will depend on if we decide to use a PA system most likely.
Other Info
Despite having connections to bring in the top DJ in Cincinnati (from Entertain Cincy) to supply music and announcements I’m going to hold off. I don’t think it will sit to well with that end of the lake if we are jamming at 9:00am to some AC/DC over a PA system.
If we don't have at least 4 riders in each division then we'll cancel the tourney and just do a demo. People are welcome to do as they please... But people like Joe, myself, others...?? will put together some runs for fun.
This event will be looked at as a "get together". I'm pretty sure if we classify this as an official event we will need a permit and permission to do something like this. Thus this is totally unofficial. It's just some friends getting together to takes some morning runs and people are welcome to watch. It is not sponsored by the official Willytown Wankster Organization. If the Sports Club or anyone else wants to be the Unofficial Official Sponsor so be it...
I'll see you at the 1st Annual Unofficial Official Willytown Throw Down.

ok i have a question for you.....
For those of us that plan on riding in the beginner division we get one invert/spin(360)..... So does that mean the rider can throw the one invert/spin(360) as many time as they want or they can only throw it once period...... for example say i throw a heelside back roll..... can i throw that roll as many times as i want as long as i do that same roll or do i only get one?..... also if someone is to throw an invert and does not land it can they try and throw something else without being disquailfied?.....
KingWankster
05-24-2007, 08:58 PM
Dude throw some big grabs, I know you got a switch 180. You can piece a run together with tail grabs and Indy Stiffy's.
I thought out the tournys' we've road in, that if you throw the same trick more than once, it doesn't count as more points except for style or technique.
Now if you throw a backroll, then come back with a backroll with a tail grab or any grab, does that count as two inverts or just more points by adding the grab.
Alteczen
05-24-2007, 09:59 PM
If you throw a backroll and then throw a grabbed backroll those are viewed as 2 separate tricks. But if you throw 3 backrolls in a row that's perfectly legal. In a normal competition a repeat trick is supposed to be ignored - so I guess it depends on who is judging it. You won't get DQ'ed though. You'll just get bumped up to the Advanced Div. and labeled as a sandbagger if you come out and throw a backroll, method backroll, and nose grab backroll... no big deal though. In all honesty I'd recommend you mix it up with the roll, some different grabs, and throw in a 180 here and there.
So right now I have:
Beg/Int: Woody, Brian, Reinhardt
Adv: Jason, Joe, Porkchop, Josh, Cameron, Bill - maybe?
Someone make sure PC knows he need to front $20. Anyone know of anyone else that is planning on riding?

The Haines' dock is down past Williamstown marina. Just past the last big open, turn-around area on the right. It's across from the Gunther's if you know where they are at. Don't worry... there will be enough people down there before it starts to know which dock it is. I doubt there will be anyone else out that early on their docks. Plus I'm sure we'll have a banner or two up there.
Speedy... I will need you to bring the seadoo and pick up the riders if that's cool. I'm sure we can front you $15 or so for gas if necessary but it shouldn't be much driving - only jumping out to the rider and bringing them back to the dock.
If you want to swap out and let a buddy drive do the pickups so you can jump in the boat from time to time that's fine. We just need someone to take care of this because it takes too long to the have the boat go back and do it. The other people I know with seadoos are in the tourney and won't be able to do the pickups.
Anyone have thoughts on the pa system? And would anyone out there be comfortable announcing? Cameron - for some reason I think you would be good at it...?
