View Full Version : How is the wake formed?
Great Idea to have a cable pull you around, but how is the Wake formed if no boat is creating it? If so, how big of a wake is it? Anyone?
If this is just a flat ride on smooth water, this would not be that great. Probably a great place for beginners though?

There is no "wake" per say. The height of the cable and you staying on edge gives the pop of a wake once you release off your edge. It's really hard to describe unless you see it. Go to You Tube and Search WakeNation and watch the videos.
Ok. Now I get it. You use the tension of the cable and the edge to flip and twist. I think I will stick to my Mastercraft X7. BIG WAKE!

Doesn't this system give you the feeling of kite sailing? You are being pulled upward.

If you think you can go big behind a X-7, than try taking a full cut into one of the kickers at Wake Nation and it will blow your mind.

Cdog, check this video out: http://vimeo.com/3940935
This is Nick Davies and he makes cable riding look incredibly fun and is a great example of what can be done on a cable. There is no substitute for a boat but the cable is fun and great for the sport!

cdog-
i wouldnt say that u really get that feeling... u dont really notice that its that high above u when ur out riding, but it will defianately feel wierd at first if ur used to boat. going back and forth is kinda tough to get used to because u will feel like the boat rope is super low. but overall it really doesnt pull u up that much. it does help tho for pulling off tricks i think. its where i learned my first invert and a few other tricks as well. and just like T-Bird said, you can get some MASSIVE air off the kickers. its unbelievable how big u can go if u commit to it
Chris-
haha yeah i remember that. are u plannin on getting back out there anytime soon? im gonna be there friday and then tuesday...

i think the best thing about the cable is the starts. i forget who it was but someone at the tourney june 30th threw a really nasty nollie start that i loved. i really wanna learn how to do that one.

Not nearly the same pull as kite sailing, gravity still applies here. It still feels like regular wakeboarding - just imagine you are in the flats, riding over immaculate butter - this is what it's like riding at Wake Nation, all the time every day. The fact that the cable is above you does give you a lot more pop out of the water and off kickers, though - like the effect a tower vs no tower has, but more so.
