Article Ideas and Help

With the season just around the corner I'm trying to figure out some ideas for front page stories. Typically I give preference to local events but most won't start for a few months. Anyone have any cool ideas for unique stories?

What are your thoughts on:

1) Maybe I draw a random name from the board and have a "Member of the month" interview? Dumb or cool idea? Would people do it?

2) What about doing a lake spotlight article 1x a month?

3) A CincyWake.com Spring ride? How warm does it have to be before most would attend? I could then at least write about this.

And does anyone have any interest in being a contributor? I'm getting busy these days with some other ventures and some help with articles would be stellar.

I wish I could offer a nice 6 figure salary but the site operates in the red so I can't offer any financial incentives. But there are the intangibles like becoming famous, women hounding you, and your name popping up on Google that you just can't put a $ amount on...

I lived in Knoxville before moving to Ohio and there is a really good forum that started abtou 3-4 years ago called Knoxwake.com and we could use some of their ideas.

They do a rider profile every month. Its pretty cool to learn about new people in your area.

I think a spring ride would be a great thing to do to get everyone together and met each other.

Getting a premier together for a new video is fun. They would rent out a section of a bar during the week and show a video that just came out.

I think having a met and greet at WakeNation would be a great idea.

Some stickers and T-shirts so that new people can hear about CincyWake.com

I would be interested in helping out with the site. I know a lot of people in the industry, just not to many people in Ohio.

I think the spring ride would be cool, even though I might not be able to make the April 4th date bc of vball. It is always nice to see everyone! I think having some meet and greets and tshirts would be nice to have and good for advertising. I don't think the temperature would be a factor since a lot of us usually attend the Ski Freeze! ;)

I think a meet and greet would be cool, meet up at WN and ride and get to know each other(if you don't already) and maybe plan some things for the summer.I don't think april would be too early,it's only cold when you first get in and all is forgotten once your up and riding.(I would ride today if i could, with my wetsuit of course)I think stickers and t-shirts would be nice plus everybody sporting stickers and shirts at WN would get people more interested.I would buy stickers for the boat, board and car and shirts for the wife and I.Man ive got the fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell .... I mean ...we'll nevermind....hope this is helpfull

Rider profile each month would be cool.

If we want to do a Cincywake.com meet and greet in April, we can do it at Wake Nation. The cable park will not officially be open (we open May 1st), but we should be operational. I think April 10th weekend would work assuming we get the cable running by then. The next 2 weekends will be crazy because there is a soccer tournament in Joyce Park that will pull 20,000 people. We could also do a mid-week event.
Jason- let me know what you want to do.

I wouldn't mind helping out as an article contributor. I could help with the rider profile which I think are a good idea.

A meet and greet is a great idea and stickers are always a good way to spread the name in this industry, however those require some cheese.

Jason - All great ideas, rider profile, family profile of the month etc. Meet and greet and raft ups etc. all awesome! I am willing to help write and post based on the excellent compensation package lol.

I am dieing to start the boat, just waiting to make sure we get past the freezing temps at night! I will not get in the water until it is 70 cause I am old, my son is another story, never stops him so we will probably do an April run assuming we get some days like today!

I think we should have a meet and greet at WakeNation now. We can all just go there and meet up with everyone that is interested. We can all just get together and talk. We will all be way to excited to talk to each other once they have the cable running.

It would be good to get a small group of people together that can help out so that Jason doesn't have to do everything. I would throw in some cash to make stickers so that we can get the name out. Then we can hope for sponsers to pick us up after that.

A spring ride is a great idea or even just a meet and greet....a ride would be better of course. Being north of Dayton, I would like to meet up in the Cincy area to get more Ohio folks involves. I also like the idea of cincywake stickers to get the word out on the site.

Wow... so first off thanks for the number of positive responses and great ideas.

I'll try to respond to most of the posts... if I leave something out let me know.

1) Pete - I'll call you to discuss. I think most of the site regulars would be thrilled to get together - and having it there is just icing on the cake. I personally could not think of a better spot and I'm sure others agree.

2) T-Bird and BZ - I'll take you up on the offers for helping out on content. When we hook up at the first annual (hopefully it's annual) Spring "Cool Name for Event" we can talk about this in more details.

3) I'm going to draw a name and see if they would be interested in doing the rider profile article.

4) Stickers - I can do the stickers here soon because there are others I have to order. I'm thinking 6" wide and 9" wide versions. Ya / na?

5) Tshirts - I would love to do them. When we get a sponsor or two I'll see about getting some t's to give away / sell at cost. I'm just a bit nervous about ordering a 100 tshirts, selling 15 of of them, and eating the rest (speaking from experience).

Hey man my name is Sean. But anyways I might be able to help with the T-Shirt situation. My dad he works for guinness beer and he gets t-shirts made all the time for really cheap. I mean he even might want to sponsor cincywake. For example I am trying to start my own site/business and I am going to NKU next year to major in entrepreneurship and I had to present my business in front of a board of professors at NKU and my dad got my logo and name printed on them. It is called "Brother's Boarding". I actually just got the domain name set and everything and working on the IT stuff myself. But just back to me if your interested.

I'm definately willing to help in anyways possible I'm all about promoting cincywake. I got a hook up on shirts and hoodies also if you need some. Stickers are an awesome idea for advertising. "Spring Tease" is a great name for a spring ride. I'll definately be there for the April 10th event. If anyone is going out this weekend and doing some riding hit me up I am all for it especially after the great weather today. The riders profile is a great idea. I'd rather just give them away in all honesty. Stickers aren't so bad ($1-2 each). Tshirts are a bit different though...

Once the sponsorship money comes rolling in it's freebies for all! Tshirts, coozies, hoodies, and all the decals you could ever want. Don't hold your breath though :rolleyes:

Hey guys...

I am just a new member and don't know if my opinion really counts but I really like the rider profile. I am just happy I found this site and a wakeboard facility is coming near home. I would like to meet up. In the past 8 years of being in the area I have only had friends that I converted to part time riders to go out with. I am excited to meet some riders that can push my skills,, hopefully to the next level. If we meet at Wake Nation a tour be given, then a article could be written on the facility and what is offered. This could possible be posted in the Dayton Daily and Cinci Papers.. Anyone have hookups for this type of marketing? I am willing to help with anything. If you need help spreading the word in the Dayton Area....I will do anything in my power to help.

April 10th sounds like a good date to me. "Spring Tease" is a great name, but we're not getting teased...been out 3 times so far :)

There were a couple people who mentioned companies who may be interested in sponsoring CincyWake... start by selling them on buying a banner on the home page. That revenue will help support the t-shirts, stickers, etc.

Spring tease is a great name. The cable will be running by April 10. I don't think we will have any of the obstacles in the water at that time, but we can all practice our arials around the towers.
JASON- give me a call tomorrow and we will arrange this thing. Nick and I will be the only ones there to run the cable so we should limit to a certain number of people. Cincywake.com exclusive event.

I am all for keeping this to cincywake exclusive. It is also good Friday and most schools and some businesses are off. I plan to be there with my family of four. The only boarders will likely be me and my 12 year old son. If that's an issue, just let me know. Can't wait to see how well my Sams club wet suit works:) Will be good to put some faces to these names.
