The Cincinnati cable wakeboarding park was officially selected today to be the host site for the World Wakeboard Association’s
Triple Crown competition, which is akin to the World Series of wakeboarding and will attract wakeboarding heavy hitters from around the globe.

“We are honored to be selected to host this prestigious event,” said Peter Kennedy, CEO of Wake Nation Cincinnati. “This is the
final stop in the 2010 Triple Crown competition and will be amazing for the public to watch the best of the best when it comes to cable wakeboarding.” The competition will be September 17-19 at the award-winning cable park. The first two stops in the Triple Crown competition were earlier in the summer in Texas and Kansas.

The competition will feature men and women, both pros and amateurs, in six competitive categories. The event is free for the general public. During the competition, the general public will not be able to “hit the water,” but public ride time will be open later in the day during each of the three days of competition.

The Triple Crown event is part of the Ten-80 WWA Wake Park Nationals presented by Alliance Wakeboard Magazine. The World Wakeboard Association (WWA) is a rider formed organization dedicated to promoting and growing wake sports worldwide. It is the leading source for riders, event organizers and competitive standards.

Last year, in its first year of operation, Wake Nation Cincinnati was selected to host the USA Wakeboard Cable National Championships, which was an extremely successful and popular event.

Located on Joe Nuxhall Way in Fairfield’s Joyce Park, the Wake Nation Cincinnati watersports’ complex opened to rave reviews one year ago as Ohio’s only watersports’ park where riders can wakeboard, water ski, kneeboard, and wakeskate around a 10-acre lake WITHOUT A BOAT. Riders are pulled around the oval lake at speeds of 18-20 miles per hour by a circulating, overhead cable system that runs 35 feet above the water. During its first season of operation, Wake Nation Cincinnati received numerous awards, including prestigious “Best Of” awards from Ohio Magazine, Cincinnati Magazine and Cincy Magazine.

New for 2010 is a smaller, second lake called “The Practice Pond” that features an “easy start” ride system, the first of its kind in the U.S. The Practice Pond is designed to give children ages five and up and beginners of all ages a place to learn to ride a wakeboard at a slower speed than on the main lake. The Practice Pond will have a starting dock on each end of the pond, creating an easy “up and back” system to facilitate more “launch” repetitions and generate a faster learning curve.

At Wake Nation Cincinnati, both parking and admission are FREE. The park is a “pay as you play” facility with ride time starting at $25 for two hours. Rental equipment, private lessons, group discounts and parties are available.

The national points chase included seven different cable parks across the country who all held tournaments every 5 weeks. Every week riders could get points by competing in their home cable park’s weekly tournament series. When the five week series came to an end each riders points were tallied up to figure out both the overall winners, as well as those who qualified for cable wakeboard national championshipships.

This year at Wake Nation’s weekly grind series, there were 51 different riders who all fit into their respective divisions: begginer, intermediate, advanced, and pro/outlaw.

The top 5 winners from each division will all have the opportunity to compete at the Texas Ski Ranch for national championships on October 9th and 10th. The top three winners from each division will also count towards an overall team score for their home cable park.

A couple of wakeboarding enthusiasts from Northern Kentucky have decided to get married at Wake Nation Cincinnati, located in Fairfield’s Joyce Park. The wedding ceremony will take place on the dock of the park’s 10-acre main lake. The wedding ceremony will be  at 12:15 p.m., immediately after the conclusion of the world record being set for most distance traveled on a wakeboard within 24 hours.

The happy couple getting married are Tony Migliorisi of Edgewood, Ky., and Dori Craig of Villa Hills, Ky. As to the why: “We just love it here at Wake Nation,” says Dori. “We come here all the time to wakeboard, and it is a picturesque setting. We wanted to get married outside, and Wake Nation has a beautiful lake and great old shade trees surrounding the facility.” Best man at the wedding is Tony’s brother Brandon, and Maid of Honor is Dori’s life-long friend Gina Cruz.

Marrying the couple will be Tony Finn, who has some business to attend to right before the wedding. Finn is part of the 10-member “Dream Team” that will be setting the wakeboarding 24-hour record, an event officially sanctioned by Guinness World Records™. Finn, who became an Ohio ordained minister for the wedding, is founder of Liquid Force, the leader in wakeboard products and apparel.

So what is the lucky couple planning after the wedding ceremony? “We are going to wakeboard, of course!” says Dori.

The public is invited to join in the fun all weekend long, and will be
able to ride on Wake Nation’s lake right alongside the
record-breaking riders throughout the world record attempt. When not on the lake, team riders (including several professional champion wakeboarders) will be available for photos, autographs, and to provide free tips and coaching all weekend long. There will even be a pro rider exhibition show on Friday June 25 at 5:30 p.m. followed by a leg of the Wake Nation Cincinnati Weekly Grind Series competition at 6:00 p.m. and then a screening of the Parks Documentary, an award-winning documentary about pro wakeboarder Parks Bonifay.

Admission and parking at Wake Nation Cincinnati are FREE.  Donations and pledges from the world record event will benefit MedLend, a non-profit organization that provides medical missions to impoverished countries around the globe in an attempt to save and improve the lives of their citizens. There will also be a silent auction featuring one-of-a-kind items with all proceeds benefiting
MedLend.

The award-winning Wake Nation Cincinnati opened for its second season May 1 and will operate daily through October. Summer hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
